How many LEDs can a 3V battery power?
One 3V Coin Cell Battery can run up to 6 Sewable PCB LEDs or up to 6 leaded LEDs (listed in the link above).
Will a 5V LED run on 3V?
LEDs are typically wired in parallel, just like almost every other light on the planet (you are describing a series circuit). 3V LED + suitable resistor = 5V at somewhere around 20-50mA each. Put as many in parallel as your wiring and power supply can handle.
Is 5V too much for LED?
No, you cannot safely power an LED with 5V without a resistor. The resistor is absolutely 100% required. The resistor isn’t put there purely on a whim, it’s required to set the current based on the supply voltage minus the LED forward voltage and the resistance of the resistor.

How are LED lights wired together and running off of 12V?
If it helps, all the LEDs are white, no colours. Two of the units have 10 LEDs each, one has 11 and the other has 12. Looking inside, each of the LEDs is wired in parallel and they all appear to be identical. I don’t mind adding resistors or other components is that’s what it takes (with some guidance, of course).
Can you use 3V LEDs without a resistor?
To use the LEDs without a resistor, you connect all 3 in parallel across 3 V (a 3.3 V coin cell battery, or 2xAA batteries in series). Any higher voltage will burn the LEDs out. Any lower and they probably won’t light up. Similarily, you could probably get away with connecting 3 LEDs in series across a 9V battery, but I wouldn’t recommend it.
How many 3 volt LEDs can I connect to a 12 volt power supply?
Four 3 Volt LEDs connected in series will work diretly from your 12 Volt supply, with no extra components. One such group will draw 15 mA. You can connect up to 66 such sets in parallel to the same 12 Volt 1 Amp power supply.
