Is Futura free to use?
Futura. Futura is a crisp geometric sans-serif typeface that’s great for headlines. Like many great fonts it isn’t free, but there are some great free Web font alternatives to Futura that just might work for your next Web design. Amazingly, Futura was created way back in 1927 by a fellow named Paul Renner.

Even though we now buy Futura from any number of companies, all of them send royalties back to the Renner family for the Futura name, in licensed trademarks of Bauer types. In 50 years, it is possible that the only version of Futura anyone will remember will be a free version on GitHub or Google Fonts.
Where is Futura used?
It immediately became popular upon its release by the Bauer Type Foundry in 1927, and today it’s pretty much everywhere. Futura is the font in ads and logos for everyone from Nike and Volkswagen to the Pittsburgh Steelers (and, improbably, Party City). It’s used in artworks by Barbara Kruger and Jenny Holzer.
What does Futura font look like?
Derived entirely from geometric forms (near-perfect circles, triangles and squares), with strokes of near-even weight and contrast and distinctively tall lowercase letters that rise even above its capitals, Futura looks like efficiency itself: clean, standardized, legible, stylish without any overt “style.”
