How to apply GeoServer SLD vendor options for label placement?

How to apply GeoServer SLD vendor options for label placement?

Label placement is a hard problem (and takes a lot of time and memory) to do well as you have to extract the labels from each layer as they are rendered and then place them at the end of rendering. So I suspect that OpenLayers will never catch up with GeoServer in labelling.

How to define vendor parameter in GeoServer 2.6?

I took the “tiger_roads.sld” from the default data_dir and modified it to add a symbol “burg02.svg” with the labelObstacle vendor option and it does seem to work for me with GeoServer 2.6 Thanks for contributing an answer to Geographic Information Systems Stack Exchange!

How to avoid drawing overlapping labels with vendor parameters?

Vendor parameter true not working? I am trying to avoid drawing overlapping labels with vendor parameters. I tried below option in different versions of Geoservers (2.2.1 to 2.5.2), its not working. http://docs.geoserver.org/2.5.x/en/user/styling/sld-extensions/label-obstacles.html

How does the maxdisplacement option work in GeoServer?

The maxDisplacement option controls the displacement of the label along a line, around a point and inside a polygon. For lines, normally GeoServer labels a line at its center point only. If this label conflicts with another one it may not be displayed at all.

What does the optional element do in GeoServer?

The optional element allows specifying label priority. This controls how conflicts (overlaps) between labels are resolved during rendering. The element content may be an expression to retrieve or calculate a relative priority value for each feature in a layer.

Why are labels on top of each other in GeoServer?

It causes all of the disjoint paths in a line group to be labeled, not just the longest one. By default GeoServer will not render labels “on top of each other”. By using the spaceAround option you can either allow labels to overlap, or add extra space around labels. The value supplied for the option is a positive or negative size, in pixels.

How does ysld work with different zoom levels?

Or perhaps you may wish to styles the same features differently depending on the zoom level. For example: a cities layer styled using points at low zoom levels (when “zoomed out”) and with polygon borders at higher zoom levels (“zoomed in”). YSLD allows rules to be applied depending on the the scale or zoom level.

How to use scale conditional parameter in GeoServer?

Be aware that scales for a layer (where a style is applied) may interact differently when the layer is contained in a map, if the map has a different coordinate reference system from the layer. The syntax for using a scale conditional parameter in a rule is: rules: – scale: [ , ] Required?

Can a zoom level be specified by scale?

You can specify by scale, or you can define zoom levels in terms of scales and specify by zoom level. Be aware that scales for a layer (where a style is applied) may interact differently when the layer is contained in a map, if the map has a different coordinate reference system from the layer.

How to create a generic style in GeoServer?

Selects a generic style based on geometry. Options are Point, Line, Polygon, Raster, and Generic. Click Generate when selected. Selects an existing style in GeoServer and copy its contents to this style. Any style in GeoServer is available as an option. Not all styles will work with all layers. Click Copy when selected.

How does GeoServer check the correctness of a style?

At the bottom of the Style Editor page is a number of options: Will test the current style for correctness according to the Format option selected. For SLD styles, it will check compliance against the SLD schema. Mind, the parser might be able to read and work with a formally incorrect style.

How to replace a search term in GeoServer?

First enter the search term, press ENTER, then type the replace term and press ENTER again. It is also possible to run “replace all” using CTRL-SHIFT-R/Cmd-Shift-Option-F. During editing and especially after editing is complete, you will want to check validation of the syntax.
