How to check if there are overlapping polygons in a group?

How to check if there are overlapping polygons in a group?

I need to do some processing with groups of polygons. If any of the polygons in the group overlaps other polygon the result is unpredictable and don’t throw any error. So, I need to detect if there is any overlapping polygon inside the group and which polygons are overlapping.

Which is an example of a sliver polygon?

For example, there could be a gap due to an overlap between a coastal water area and the foreshore due to an island. In both of these instances, the gap or overlapping area could be considered a sliver polygon.

How to check for polygon overlaps in ArcMap?

For example, a gap might exist between a lake and grassland area. There can also be overlaps between features. For example, there could be a gap due to an overlap between a coastal water area and the foreshore due to an island.

How to efficiently check if there is overlap between boundingboxes?

Iterating thru each group, you can first perform a faster Overlap test between BoundingBox geometries (lyr.SetSpatialFilterRect). When true, test for overlap on the real geometries. Another option, Spatialite is easy to setup and offers PostGIS like functions and performance. It may be worth investigating.

How to identify overlapping polygons in Python with RTree?

Construct an RTree from the bounds of your US County polygons and then compare that to the bounds of your incoming polygons to narrow down your query region. Then do a spatial intersection of the counties with your actual geometry to get whether or not they intersect.

Is the Intersect tool set to only output polygons?

However, since the Intersect Tool is set to only output polygons, all of the unselected features in your drawing only generate incompatible geometry (points or lines) and as a result are excluded from the final output.
