How to configure ALSA devices for USB audio?
I have an ESI NeOn Audio/Midi interface with 4 input and 2 output channels. The device is old but audio out and midi seems to work with alsa/jack. However subdevices are not recognized and so I cannot use eg. Mic in to capture audio.
Is there a high pitched whine from the USB?
I have an M-Audio M-Track, a $100 USB-based audio interface. Across all 3 computers I have tried it on, there is a high-pitched whine around 1kHz, similar to the one here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7345145/noise_2.wav
Is the neon ALSA sound card USB 1 compliant?
I understand the NeON is a usb 1 class compliant device, but there does not seem to be any other information available in the ALSA soundcard compatibility page for this particular model.

Why does my sound card not support ALSA?

Is there a way to change the ALSA output?

Is there a sound card that can record audio?
I have a XDJ-R1 which includes a 24bit 44.1khz USB soundcard that can be used to record audio from the mixer. When I plug it in it’s detected fine. However using alsamixer (or amixer) I don’t see any audio controls for volume. If I start pulseaudio it will detect the device just fine. However, at 100% volume the audio seems rather low.
