Go to the site where your page is. On the left side navigation, click Pages. If you don’t see Pages on the left side, click Site Contents from Settings in the upper right, then on the left side of the Site Contents page, click Pages. Select the page, and then click the ellipses ( …) to the right of the selected page.
One way is to click just below welcomelayout2.aspx (the last item in the Nav list) You’ll see a new copy of the master page you just pasted. Click Save and click Ok to the warning message.

Back on the SharePoint Designer left Navigation bar, click Master Pages and find your edited master page and again click right beside it (to the right) so the row is highlighted. Pretty cool, right? But annoyingly the Sites link still appears right beside the word SharePoint on the top menu.
