How to desolder eMMC?
Best way would be to use a very thin magnet wire, AWG36 to AWG40, and break the connection to some DIP-40 socket, or something. Solder 60/40 would be just fine, if you have a 10X stereo stand and fine-tip soldering iron. You just need to clean your eMMC thoroughly.
How do you reflow a BGA chip?
BGA Rework
- Step 1: Tools Needed. What you’ll need:
- Step 2: Let’s Start. Roughly measure the lenght of your BGA chip.
- Step 3: Make a Clip. Using some iron wire, make a clip like the one shown here,
- Step 4: Drink That Soda!
- Step 5: Flux It.
- Step 6: Tin Solder Helps.
- Step 7: Gather the Actors.
- Step 8: Time to Heat.
Can I remove eMMC?
No. That eMMC is soldered directly to the motherboard. Even if you were to CAREFULLY desolder it (you can’t), the motherboard does not have the proper connections or firmware to use something else.
What is BGA chip?
(Ball Grid Array) A popular surface mount chip package that uses a grid of solder balls as its connectors. Available in plastic and ceramic varieties, BGA is noted for its compact size, high lead count and low inductance, which allows lower voltages to be used. See surface mount, chip package, MicroBGA and flip chip.
How long does eMMC last?
Lifespan of eMMC An eMMC run device can last up to 5 years. This timespan is indirectly proportional to the storage capacity of the drive, meaning a 16 GB eMMC is likely to last longer than a 32 GB one. Also, the more you use one the further its lifespan decreases.
Can I replace eMMC with HDD?
Where does a BGA 153 Pin go on a PCB?
Each BGA chip is identified by the number of PIN it contains a BGA 153 would have place on 153 PIN’s on PCB surface. In addition, a BGA can have different form factor variants.
Why are BGA packages used in SMD ICs?
SMD ball grid array, BGA packages enable high density connections to be made more easily to integrated circuits by allowing the under-side of a chip package to be used for the connectivity. The Ball Grid Array has become increasingly popular for SMD ICs that require high density connections.
What should I use to desolder an eMMC chip?
Use some powerful heat gun instead of a tiny hot-air pencil. As soon as the solder temperature gets to the soften/melting point (which you don’t know and shouldn’t guess), the chip will fall down by itself, maybe with a little help.
Which is better eMMC chip or DDR3 chip?
With regards to the eMMC chip I had so far found information that 240 degrees should be sufficent to unsolder it (supposedly its solder melts at 225 degrees). Is it to be expected that an eMMC chip would come off at a so much lower (240 instead of 385) temperature than a DDR3 chip?
