To hide the Menu Bar in OS X El Capitan, head to Settings > General. There, you’ll find a new checkbox beneath last year’s neat feature: dark mode for the Dock and Menu Bar. What we’re looking for, however, is the option labeled Automatically hide and show the menu bar.
If you ever tire of the hidden Menu Bar and want to turn this feature off, just head back to Settings > General and uncheck the designated box. There’s no need to reboot or log off when enabling or disabling the hidden Menu Bar; the change happens instantly as you check or uncheck the box.
When enabled, the Menu Bar slides up off the top edge of your Mac’s screen, and any user interface elements that were previously restricted by the Menu Bar’s presence – such as sorted desktop icons – will automatically move up to occupy the added space.
How to get to the top of El Capitan?
The top of El Capitan is really wide, it feels like you’ve got to the top of a hill rather than the huge granite monolith and you’re a long way away from the edge. Follow the cairns and head south (or away from the forest) to see better views from El Cap.
What to expect on the El Capitan hike?
The trail undulates quite a bit in the final couple of miles to El Cap, continuously going up a little and down a little, through forest and sometimes opening to exposed rocky sections. The rock is grippy and there are no sheer drops, so there’s nothing to worry about.
Is it safe to drink water at El Capitan?
In fall lots of the creeks are running dry and we couldn’t fill up until one mile before the El Cap summit. In other seasons there should be many more water sources. We’d recommend bringing a life straw as it makes any water from a creek into safely drinkable – you can check them out REI or Amazon.
