What is Surge test?
Surge voltage testing is used to discover insulation problems in wound materials. In studies, experts have determined that 60% of motor failures start out as coil shorts within a winding. A surge voltage test is the only testing method which can determine insulation problems in wound materials.
What causes EFT?
Electrical Fast Transients (EFT), also going by fast transients or bursts (EFT/B) are a series of quick high frequency pulses mainly caused by arching (sparking). A common cause of power line transients occurs when an AC/DC connection is made or broken, equipment powered down, or circuit breakers switched.

Due to the similarities between ESD and EFT, the design of the circuit protection can be similar, but due to its high energy, surge must be dealt with differently. This is one of the main issues in developing protection that improves the immunity of data ports to all three transients while remaining cost effective.
