Is an antenna an inductor?
In effect, each inductor acts as an antenna, which transmits and/or receives an electromagnetic signal. Although this situation is not precisely analogous to, for example, radio communications (cell phones, walkie talkies, and so on), it is very close.
Does a random wire antenna need to be straight?
The wire may be straight or it may be strung back and forth between trees or walls just to get enough wire into the air. Such antennas are usually not as effective as antennas whose length is adjusted to resonate at the wavelength to be used.

How many coils are needed for a single band dipole?
One coil placed in the center or at the base of a single-band vertical antenna is sufficient, but a single-band dipole will require two coils – one in each element of the dipole. For multiband HF antennas, different loading coils (or adjustable coils) are needed for coverage of each band.

An inductor will behave differently as current at one end of an inductor creates a magnetic field that immediately induces currents at the opposite end. An inductor also adds electrical resistance to an antenna, incurring a penalty in radiation efficiency compared to a full-size antenna.
