Is Keybase IO legit?
Yes, really. Anyway, what matters is that keybase.io is an open source app that uses end-to-end encryption, meaning: Keybase (the company) never has access to your messages or files. All of this has recently been formally verified and audited.
How do I set up Keybase?
The installation process boils down to: Download and install the Keybase app. Sign up for an account. Fill in your profile….You don’t have to do it all at once though.

Should I use Keybase?
Keybase is a powerful suite of secure tools that make PGP encryption more practical for general use. It may be a good secure messenger for your unique situation, but there are also some other great options to consider. Unfortunately, I think Keybase may be a bit too complicated and technical for the average user.
How does Keybase work and how does it work?
Keybase take a different approach to providing a database of public keys. Keybase provides a central database of public keys. This is usually a no-no, since there is a single place to attack and compromise. However, when Keybase generates a keypair, it lets you make attestations on remote sites of the public key.
Are there private keys on the Keybase server?
The Keybase servers do not have private keys that can read this data. Nor can they inject any public keys into this process, to trick you into encrypting for extra parties. Your and my key additions and removals are signed by us into a public merkle tree, which in turn is hashed into the Bitcoin block chain to prevent a forking attack.

How do you talk to someone on Keybase?
You still need to find someone to chat with. Select the People icon to search Keybase for someone to talk to. Enter the real name or the Keybase username of the person you want to talk to. When you find them, you can click their name to see their Keybase profile:
