Is low poly easy?
Low-poly is a technique of 3D modelling that use a small number of polygons. Because first of all, it’s easier to create low poly scenes than realistic scene when you begin to use blender or any 3D modelling applications. But also because it’s charming: it’s like cute little models.
What is considered a low poly character?
There is no threshold definition for low poly , it generally refers to making models while using the lowest possible number of polygons. Even some stunning looking models can be low poly but employ some advance technologies for improving appearance like using normal maps.
How to make low poly models look good?
We also want to make sure our models do not have smoothed normals, also known as “no shared vertices”. Make sure to apply this setting in your 3D modeling software, as in for example Unity, this can not be changed afterwards very easily. I try to keep textures to a very minimum.
Is there too much saturation in low poly art?
Be very careful of saturation levels, I see a lot of low poly art, grass in particular, which have too much saturation. Make sure to get some specular in, this will ease off highlights to a more pleasant, desaturated tone. Saturation can be a strong way to guide the viewers eye, but be careful not to overdo it.
Why does low poly look bad in Photoshop?
Huge inconsistencies in polygon size, some things are smoothed, others are not. Saturation level is very equal across the whole image, giving you no point of interest. Grass is too cool, a bit of warmth would have helped. It doesn’t look like a proper skydome was used – the color temperature seems the same in the sunlight and shade.
