Is rainfall a raster data?
Sometimes you don’t have the choice of storing your data as a raster; for example, imagery is only available as a raster. However, there are many other features (such as points) and measurements (such as rainfall) that could be stored as either a raster or a feature (vector) data type.
What kind of data is rainfall?
Rainfall: Rainfall includes all forms of water particles, whether liquid (for example, rain or drizzle) or solid (hail or snow), that fall from clouds and reaches the ground. The rain gauge is the standard instrument for recording rainfall, which is measured in millimetres.
What is a gridded data?
Gridded data is two-dimensional data representing an atmospheric or oceanic parameter along an evenly spaced matrix. For the matrix to be useful, ancillary information about the grid must also be known. This ancillary information, along with the gridded data, is collectively called a grid object.
What is the process of precipitation?
Precipitation is any liquid or frozen water that forms in the atmosphere and falls back to the Earth. Precipitation forms in the clouds when water vapor condenses into bigger and bigger droplets of water. When the drops are heavy enough, they fall to the Earth.
What is precipitation data for?
Among other uses, precipitation and other Earth-observing datasets from NASA are used for forecasting tropical cyclones; monitoring soil moisture conditions and freshwater availability; and monitoring flood and drought conditions, landslide activity, crop yields, and water-related illnesses.
Is precipitation a data ratio?
The expression ‘precipitation ratio’, by itself and out of context, is not meaningful: a ratio involves two quantities, so you need to sharpen your question first. Rainfall intensity is a measure of the rate at which precipitation is occurring.
What is station data?
Station data refers to datasets representing physical properties at observing stations located at non-gridded points in space. ncl / The data file for this example is pw. dat, which contains a column of data values, each with a corresponding lat, lon value.
