Is tail strike dangerous?
Tail strikes themselves are not that dangerous, apart from upsetting passengers or leading to other aircraft problems. However, the danger comes from the strike weakening the airframe. Thanks to the aircraft pressurizing in cycles throughout its life, the fuselage can become weaker over time.
Is a tail strike an incident?
A tail strike in itself is not normally a serious incident. Contact is usually brief and not forceful enough to cause major immediate damage or disrupt the aircraft’s motion. However, it can have longer terms effects through damage to the airframe.
Can a bird dent a plane?
Yes, hail can do this kind of damage, but bird strikes are much more common—remember the Miracle on the Hudson? —and have more of the qualities that could crush a nose cone. In 2017, Oklahoma City Thunder players were on a plane flying into Chicago when it was struck by something that flattened the nose cone.
What would happen if a plane lost its tail?
The vertical tailfin is used for stability and for control over yaw. The rudder is used to control the direction a plane is facing. If this tail is damaged, it would be difficult to control the plane.
How do you stop a tail strike landing?
Avoid increasing the pitch, or letting the pitch increase (e.g. ground spoilers effect) after a bounce. Perform a walk-around inspection to detect any marks that might have resulted from a tailstrike that was not noticed during the landing.

What happens if a bird hits a plane?
During landing or takeoff, bird strikes can cause damage to extended landing gear, which can lead to sufficient malfunction of brakes or nose gear steering systems. In turn, it can result in directional control problems during a subsequent landing roll.
