Is the list view threshold over 5000 items?
Columns were indexed and used to filter views to ensure none went over the threshold, the total number of items in the entire list was just over 5000 and all views broke, even if they only had 20 items in there!
How to change list view threshold in Excel?
Go to the list and click on “Modify this view” in the ribbon. Under the “Filter” section, you should be able to see which columns are being used for the filter. Then, navigate to list settings, select “indexed columns” and then “Create a new index” for each filtered column.
“Cannot show the value of the filter. The field may not be filterable, or the number of items returned exceeds the list view threshold enforced by the administrator.” First of all, when in doubt, refer to the documentation provided by Microsoft.
Why is my list view not being displayed?
The view cannot be displayed because it exceeds the list view threshold (5000 items) enforced by the administrator. To view items, try selecting another view or creating a new view. If you do not have sufficient permissions to create views for this list, ask your administrator to modify the view so that it conforms to the list view threshold.
Is there a limit to the number of items that can be filtered?
At any point the filter should always return less than 5000 (resource limit) items. Filtering as well as Sorting should be on Indexed Columns. You will always encounter 5,000 Item limit, does not matter whether you indexed the columns or not.
Internally Sharepoint still has more than 5000 elements and it knows it. SharePoint gets all the items in the list and only after that the list filters are applied. Go to the list and click on “Modify this view” in the ribbon. Under the “Filter” section, you should be able to see which columns are being used for the filter.
