Is the science and technology of small particles?
The term micromeritics was given to the science and technology of small particles by J. M. DallaValle. It is thus the study of the fundamental and derived properties of individual as well as a collection of particles. The knowledge and control of the size of particles is of importance in pharmacy and materials science.
How do you reduce particle size?
One method for particle size reduction is the use of Microfluidizers® which expose the material to consistent shear levels using a unique fixed-geometry interaction chamber (see www.microfluidicscorp.com). As depicted above, product is input into a reservoir which supports high solid content.
What is the average particle size of paint?
Paint was prepared in both colors at an average particle size range of 25 microns and six microns. The finer particle size, as expected, produced a higher gloss in the unexposed panels.
How are particle size and lightfastness related to paint?
• particle size (which is closely related to the paint’s transparency and dispersability or activity wet in wet) • lightfastness (which depends on the pigment particle size and chemical structure)
How does particle size affect the distribution of pigment?
It indicates nothing about particle size distribution. The state of deflocculation of the pigment is related to the particle size; and to obtain optimum results of no rubbing or deflocculation, the pigment must be dispersed as close to its ultimate particle size as possible.
What’s the relationship between particle size and gloss?
Relationship of particle size to gloss. The paint industry has changed fromart to science in the last one hundred years. Today, paint technology uses the sciences of chemistry, physics and engineering. New technologies provide new materials to work with, new production equipment, processes and substrates.
