Is there an alternative to AirPort Express?
AFAIK, there is currently no device out there that can perform the same functions as an AirPort Express. That is, perform as a wireless Internet router, or extend a wireless network provided by another AirPort base stations, AND support AirPlay for streaming.
How do I add AirPlay to my speakers?
Go into the Wi-Fi under Settings on your iPhone/iPad. Select the speaker you want to set up AirPlay under “SET UP NEW AIRPLAY SPEAKER…” on the lower part of the display. Choose the Wi-Fi network you want to connect this speaker to, then press Next.
Can I still buy AirPort Express?

What are some cheaper alternatives to Airport Express that?
I have a Windows desktop and laptop (no Macs) and an Airport Express for listening to music in the living room. I also have sets of speakers in two other rooms. I don’t want to spend another $200 just to redirect sound to other rooms.
Can a Airport Express be used as an AP?
Split the functions. The Express will probably still work ok for airplay. What it is poor at is wireless.. you can use any wireless Access Point (AP) or wireless router in bridge or WAN BYPASS mode. i.e. a router may not have a specific AP mode but all wireless routers can be used as AP.
