Micromax has just recently launched its first entry-level smartphone running Android 4.4 KitKat OS in the form of the Micromax Unite 2 A106. But apparently, Micromax is getting on the Android KitKat bandwagon with an all-out attack on the entry-level segment by launching its second Android KitKat-running budget smartphone in the form of the Micromax Canvas Engage (A091).
The Micromax Canvas Engage can be bought online and has been priced at Rs. 6199 on eBay. This price tag makes the phone the cheapest smartphone running Android 4.4 out-of-the-box.
Canvas Engage comes packed with a 4-inch IPS WVGA display with a resolution of 800 x 480;512MB of RAM, the budget smartphone is powered by an unspecified quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, which could be a MediaTek chipset. It also has 4GB of internal storage which is expandable upto 32 GB via a microSD, a 5-megapixel rear camera without flash support and a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera.
It has support for Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPRS/ EDGE and 3G for internet and cellular connectivity options, with Bluetooth and GPS/A-GPS also available. It’s a dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) phone with dual standby support. However the smartphone has a rather small 1500mAh battery, which should be good for 5.5 hours of talk time and 200 hours of standby time on 2G networks, a FM Radio and a 3.5mm audio jack.
The Micromax Canvas Engage comes preloaded with many useful apps such as KingSoft Office, Getit, Opera Mini, and M! Live, Hike, MiGames, Games Club, Reverie phonebook, and Smartpad among others. Also, like its predecessor the Unite 2, the Canvas Engage too supports 20 regional languages.
With the launch of the Micromax Canvas Engage the company is trying to curb the popularity of the Moto e smartphone, which has become a popular choice in the low-budget Android smartphone category. Canvas engage however, has not yet been listed on the company’s official website and there is no word on the official launch date of the smartphone.
The Micromax Canvas Engage is a good budget smartphone running Android 4.4 KitKat. More about the smartphone will be known in the upcoming days.
