Should you learn DirectX or OpenGL?
So my bottom line is: Both are fine, OpenGL gives you cross platform code (Provided you write it), and DirectX gives you more game development oriented tools and libraries. If it’s all about getting started as fast as possible, I’d recommend OpenGL on a NVidia GPU.
Is OpenGL or DirectX easier?
As a tool also DirectX is less mechanical and Ive had the opportunity to get into both and Id say DirectX has more features and generally OpenGL is a graphics API but DirectX is more than that. Learning curves. DirectX is easier relative to OpenGL 4.
How do I create a DirectX app?
To create a DirectX “non-desktop” application, a special type of project called a “DirectX App” is used. This step involves opening a Visual Studio 2013, select File → New Project and select as “DirectX App” which comes under category of “Visual C++”, “Store App”, “Universal App”.
When should I use OpenGL?
If you need to develop for more than Windows, OpenGL is the way to go. When it comes to graphics capabilities, both APIs rely on the use of the traditional graphics pipeline. This is the same pipeline that has been used in computer games since the early days of computer graphics.
Where can I learn DirectX programming in C + +?
I want to learn DirectX in C++ programming. I decided to learn DirectX, so I found some tutorials online, but they all were very complicated and hard to understand. I have spent 3 days on a tutorial, and I have read everything, but I still can’t even make an program that initializes DirectX. I think its very hard to learn that way.
How to create a DirectX 12 application from scratch?
This is the first lesson in a series of lessons to teach you how to create a DirectX 12 application from scratch. In this lesson, you will learn how to query for DirectX 12 capable display adapters that are available, create a DirectX 12 device, create a swap-chain, and you will also learn how to present the swap chain back buffer to the screen.
What do you need to know about DirectX for Windows?
While DirectX itself has its own terminology, it still builds upon a well-established understanding of general 3D graphics principles. Understand the concept of a message loop, because you’ll be implementing a loop that listens to the Windows operating system. And we’re off!
When did DirectX 12 compute shaders come out?
Compute shaders allow the graphics programmer to create general purpose programs that advantage of the massive parallelism of the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). On July 29, 2015, together with the launch of Windows 10, Microsoft released version 12 of the DirectX API. DirectX 12 (and Direct3D 11.3) also introduced Shader Model 5.1.
