What are D and Q axes?
The d axis, also known as the direct axis, is the axis by which flux is produced by the field winding. The q axis, or the quadrature axis is the axis on which torque is produced.
What are ID and IQ currents?
Id, iq and the reference values for each generate error signals. The id reference controls rotormagnetizing flux while the iq reference governs motor torque output. These error signals are fed to proportional-integral (PI) controllers whose outputs are sent to the motor as voltage vectors Vd and Vq.
What are the types of induction machines?
Starting. There are three basic types of small induction motors: split-phase single-phase, shaded-pole single-phase, and polyphase. In two-pole single-phase motors, the torque goes to zero at 100% slip (zero speed), so these require alterations to the stator such as shaded-poles to provide starting torque.
Are permanent magnet motors brushless?
The term “brushless DC” is often given to Permanent magnet motors, as it describes the key advantage over conventional DC motors of not requiring any brushgear. Because there is no need for rotor windings (or bars) and their attendant losses, the efficiencies of these motors can be exceptionally high.
What are the D, Q axes in an induction motor?
In the d,q model, coils DS and QS replace the stator phase coils AS, BS and CS, while coils DR and QR replace the rotor phase coils AR, BR and CR. Although the d,q axes can rotate at an arbitrary speed, there is no relative speed be- . tween the four cdils DS, QS, DR and QR.
Why does a magnet have a larger Q axis than a d axis?
A motor with an imbedded magnet will have a larger q-axis inductance than the d-axis inductance. A motor with surface-mount magnets will have nearly identical q-axis and d-axis inductances because the magnets are outside the rotor and do not limit the amount of iron linked by the stator field.
How is a PM motor different from an induction motor?
A PM motor is an ac motor that uses magnets imbedded into or attached to the surface of the motor’s rotor. The magnets are used to generate a constant motor flux instead of requiring the stator field to generate one by linking to the rotor, as is the case with an induction motor.
How is the current generated in an AC induction machine?
The rotating field induces a current in the rotor bars. The current generation requires a speed difference between the rotor and the magnetic field. The interaction between the field and the current produces the driving force. Therefore, ac induction machines are the predominant motor operated by adjustable speed drives.
