What are partitioned views?

What are partitioned views?

Partitioned Views A partitioned view is a view defined by a UNION ALL of member tables structured in the same way, but stored separately as multiple tables in either the same instance of SQL Server or in a group of autonomous instances of SQL Server servers, called federated database servers.

How indexes are stored?

An index is usually maintained as a B+ Tree on disk & in-memory, and any index is stored in blocks on disk. These blocks are called index blocks. The entries in the index block are always sorted on the index/search key. The leaf index block of the index contains a row locator.

How to see the partition level of an index?

Display the following information for index subpartitions: partition-level partitioning information, storage parameters for the partition, statistics collected by the DBMS_STATS package or the ANALYZE statement. Display information about existing subpartition templates.

Is the partition function of the index and the base table the same?

However, the partition function of the index and the base table must be essentially the same, in that: The arguments of the partition functions have the same data type. They define the same number of partitions. They define the same boundary values for partitions.

How are partitions managed in a schema object?

A partitioned object has pieces that can be managed either collectively or individually. DDL statements can manipulate partitions rather than entire tables or indexes. Thus, you can break up resource-intensive tasks such as rebuilding an index or table. For example, you can move one table partition at a time.

Do you have to have a partitioning column in a clustered index?

If the clustered index is unique, you must explicitly specify that the clustered index key contain the partitioning column. For more information on clustered indexes and index architecture, see Clustered Index Design Guidelines. When partitioning a unique nonclustered index, the index key must contain the partitioning column.
