What are passive circuit components?
The three main passive components used in any circuit are the: Resistor, the Capacitor and the Inductor. All three of these passive components have one thing in common, they limit the flow of electrical current through a circuit but in very different ways.
What is passive regulator?
Definition. Passive flow control regulators, also known as passive flow control or autoregulated or pressure-compensated valves, deliver, without external control and energy consumption, a constant flow rate regardless of pressure variations.
Is a voltage regulator active or passive?
Active regulators. Active regulators employ at least one active (amplifying) component such as a transistor or operational amplifier. Shunt regulators are often (but not always) passive and simple, but always inefficient because they (essentially) dump the excess current which is not available to the load.
How are linear regulators used in integrated circuit?
Some designs of linear regulators use only transistors, diodes and resistors, which are easier to fabricate into an integrated circuit, further reducing their weight, footprint on a PCB, and price. All linear regulators require an input voltage at least some minimum amount higher than the desired output voltage.

How does a voltage regulator work in a laser?
By connecting a resistor to the output pin and the adjust pin to the other end of the resistor like shown in the figure, the regulator tries to maintain a constant 1.25V across the output resistor and hence a constant current on the output. This simple circuit is quite popular with the diode laser community.
Which is the second type of voltage regulator?
The second type of linear voltage regulator is the shunt regulator. In the basic circuit shown in Fig. 20.12, the pass transistor Q 1 is connected in parallel with the load. A voltage-dropping resistor R3 is in series with this parallel network.
