What are tail slides?
The tailslide is an aerobatic maneuver that starts from level flight with a 1/4 loop up into a straight vertical climb (at full power) until the aircraft loses momentum. Tailslides will transiently reverse the airflow on many aircraft surfaces, giving abnormal forces compared with forward flight.
What is a whip stall?
: a stall during a vertical climb in which the nose of the airplane whips violently forward and then downward.
What is a hammerhead stall?
: a maneuver in which an airplane pulls up in a vertical climb until it almost stalls and then drops the nose in a wingover so that direction of flight is reversed.
Can Jets do flips?

What is a tail slide in surfing?
A tail side is an advanced maneuver where the back of the board slides around as a result of your fins breaking out of the water. Most often performed on forehand re-entries and cutbacks and sometimes on backhand re-entires.
Do stalls turn?
The aircraft begins at the dot, and pulls into a vertical climb. The small angled line at the top indicates a stall turn (without indicating the orientation after the turn). The plane then descends, pulls into horizontal flight, and ends at the small vertical line.
How does a fighter jet slow down?
The primary (and most effective) method to slow the jet down is aerobraking. In the T-38 at ~130 knots full aft stick is applied at a rate that prevents the jet from becoming airborne again. The stick will be back towards the seat pan. Fly the nosewheel down to the runway at ~100 knots and apply wheel brakes.
How is a tail slide different from a whip?
A “tail slide” occurs when an aircraft is nose up and loses all forward airspeed. Gravity then pulls the plane “backwards” towards earth. The “whip” occurs when a sinking aircraft is flipped nose down by the airflow as it assumes a more aerodynamicly stable orientation.
Can a whip stall be used in aerobatics?
Whip stalls are prohibited as far as I know in the C152 Aerobat but watching a video of a whip stall it looks exactly the same as a tail slide. The thing is that my aerobatic instructor taught me how to tail slide and I distinctly remember him telling me to make sure that I held the elevator neutral or it could snap off or be damaged.
What’s the difference between wing stall and tailplane stall?
Identifying a wing stall vs. a tailplane stall isn’t easy since the differences in warning signs are subtle. You need to be able to differentiate airframe buffet from control buffet. With airframe buffet, you will get feedback through the seat of your pants, as opposed to just the buffeting of the controls in a tailplane stall.
Can a forward CG cause a tail plane to stall?
Operating with a forward CG can aggravate the problem due to the increased pitch forward moment of the aircraft causing increased tail down force and tailplane angle of attack. Flying on autopilot can mask the warning signs that tail plane icing is occurring and a tail plane stall imminent.
