What are the advantages and disadvantages of the Goode Homolosine projection?
Paul Goode merged the Mollweide (Homolographic) projection and the Sinusoidal projection to create Goode’s Homolosine Interrupted. The advantage of this projection is each of the continents are the correct size and in proportion to one another. The disadvantage is distance and direction are not accurate.
What are the pros and cons of an equal area projection?
Advantage: The Equal-Area map projection show the correct sizes of landmasses and continents. Disadvantage: The Equal area map causes the shapes of landmasses to be altered and forced into curves.
What is wrong with the Goode Homolosine projection?
Distortion. Goode homolosine is an equal-area (equivalent) projection. Shapes, directions, angles, and distances are generally distorted.
Who is the inventor of the AuthaGraph projection?
AuthaGraph projection. AuthaGraph is an approximately equal-area world map projection invented by Japanese architect Hajime Narukawa in 1999. The map is made by equally dividing a spherical surface into 96 triangles, transferring it to a tetrahedron while maintaining area proportions, and unfolding it onto a rectangle.
How is the AuthaGraph projection inspired by Dymaxion?
The map substantially preserves sizes and shapes of all continents and oceans while it reduces distortions of their shapes, as inspired by the Dymaxion map.
Why does the AuthaGraph world map look so big?
The Authagraph World Map: once the tetrahedrons are laid out, you can choose any way you like to cut a map out. Most common world maps are highly size distorted, with any land masses located toward the poles tending to look much bigger than they really are, which, in some ways, makes this weird-looking projection a lot more accurate.
Can you cut a map out of AuthaGraph?
From there, you can choose where to cut your map out from, depending on what you need to highlight and whether you’re comfortable cutting land masses in half. The Authagraph World Map: once the tetrahedrons are laid out, you can choose any way you like to cut a map out.
