What are the differences between a discrete-time signal and a discrete signal?
The digital signal can take any value out of these N values only ( and not just any value). in discrete signal you can have any domain for each time(N),but in the digital signal you cant have any domain ,and you have standard value for each domain. value at discreet time intervals .
Can we define discrete signal at all interval of time?
The independent variable(s) for a signal may be continuous or discrete. A signal is considered to be a continuous time signal if it is defined over a continuum of the independent variable. A signal is considered to be discrete time if the independent variable only has discrete values.
How is the width of a signal affected by time shifting?
During this process, the width of the signal x (t) does not change. Therefore W=W 0. If the independent variable t is replaced by t+t 0 ,the signal is shifted to the left and the time shift results in an advancement of the signal by t 0 units of time.
Is there a time shift for discrete time sinusoids?
The situation is considerably different for discrete-time sinusoids. Not all discrete-time sinu- soids are periodic. Furthermore, while a time shift can be related to a change in phase, changing the phase cannot necessarily be associated with a simple time shift for discrete-time sinusoids.
When to use discrete time or continuous time signals?
We have used discrete-time signals in these examples, but the same applies to continuous-time signals. Time-shifting is an important operation that is used in many signal-processing applications. For example, a time-delayed version of the signal is used when performing autocorrelation.
How is the signal x shifted in time?
Time Shifting. A signal x(t) may be shifted in time by replacing the independent variable t by either t−t 0 or t+t 0 . Here t 0 is called as the shifting factor. Shifting in time may results in time delay or time advancement.
