What are the two types of inputs on an audio mixer?
Usually, you’ll have both a ¼” jack input for line signals, and an XLR connection for microphones. These days, it’s common to see stereo input channels, too (like the two to the right of the inputs shown in the mixer above, that aren’t in a coloured box).
What is the input and output of a mixer?
A mixer is really a traffic manager. A signal is connected to an input, and you steer it to one of several possible outputs. Some mixers have several stages of mixing, where inputs are mixed to submixes, or GROUPS, and then the groups are further mixed to a stereo output.
How does a matrix mixer work?
A Matrix mixer is used to route audio signals from multiple sources to different destinations or zones. When working with a Matrix mixer it allows you to create separate mixes from a combination of output signals or buses e.g. aux sends, L/R Main Mix, subgroups, etc.
What is the difference between a mix and a matrix?
Auxes are extra mixes of inputs. Matrices are extra mixes of outputs, such as groups and the main output. So you could mix the main outputs with something extra from a group (crowd mics maybe) and send it off to Matrix 1 and 2, which is attached to a recording device.
What is Matrix Submix?
The Matrix is a sub-section of medium- to large-format live sound mixers. The simplest way to describe a Matrix would be a “mix of mixes,” or as a mixer within a mixer (stand-alone Matrix mixers are also available).
How can I switch audio inputs and outputs?
I recently blogged about an amazing little utility called AudioSwitcher that makes it two-clicks easy to switch your audio inputs and outputs. I need to switch audio devices a lot as I’m either watching video, doing a podcast, doing a conference call, playing a game, etc. That’s at least three different “scenarios” for my audio setup.
How can I control the audio in my mixer?
For each audio source in the Audio Mixer, you can see that source’s levels, as well as a corresponding fader, speaker button, and Audio button. While this mixer controls the basic levels and mix of all your audio sources, you can refine each individual input’s audio using audio filters. This opens in a new window.
Where are the input sockets on a sound mixer?
Input sockets are usually located either on the rear panel of the mixer or on the top above each channel. There are no hard-and-fast rules about what type of equipment uses each type of connector, but here are some general guidelines: Microphones and some audio devices.
What are the channels in an audio mixer?
Channels 3-4 and 5-6 are stereo inputs, and can be used for stereo microphones, instruments with stereo output signals (like many synthesizers and keyboards) or any other stereo signals. These channels can also be used for mono signals. Channels 7-8 and 9-10 are also stereo, and are meant more for consumer electronics equipment.
