What can you use AirTags for?
AirTags use Bluetooth signals to connect to Apple’s Find My network. You can use Bluetooth tracking apps to scan your area to see if an AirTag is nearby. While the apps won’t identify AirTags by name, they may help you see if there is an unknown device nearby.
Where are AirTags?
AirTags are added and managed in the Find My app under the “Items” tab that Apple introduced in iOS 14.3. Like other Apple devices, each AirTag is displayed on a map in the Find My app so you can see its location. AirTags connect to your iOS and macOS devices over Bluetooth.
How do I use Apple AirTags?
Add an AirTag
- Go to the Home Screen on your iPhone.
- Remove the battery tab from the AirTag (if applicable), then hold it near your iPhone.
- Tap Connect on the screen of your iPhone.
- Choose a name from the list or choose Custom Name to type a name and select an emoji, then tap Continue.
What is the range of AirTags?
An AirTag uses Bluetooth to connect to an iPhone during the initial setup process, and an iPhone needs to be within a range of 33 feet to connect to any Bluetooth device, according to Apple.
Can you find your phone with AirTag?
If you attach an AirTag to a phone that doesn’t already support the FindMy app (like an older iPhone, or an Android phone), you’ll be able to find your phone via its attached AirTag by using any other device with the FindMy app, like another iPhone or an iPad, or by going to iCloud.com.

Can I use AirTag to track my dog?
Does Apple approve of using AirTag for tracking pets? Technically, no. Though it’s small enough to affix to a dog’s collar using Apple’s own key rings or loops (my colleague Brian X. Chen made the hack work), Apple has stressed that the AirTag is meant for locating items, not people or pets.
