What causes a filament slip?
If the spool of filament that you are using is tangled, then the filament can get caught while it’s being pulled by the extruder. This would cause a Filament Slip. Pause the print and unload the filament from the extruder and untangle the spool.
How do you tighten a filament extruder?
How to Adjust Spring Tension
- Unload any filament.
- Locate the extruder spring set screw on the extruder that needs adjustment.
- Use the 2 mm hex wrench that came with your MakerBot Replicator 2X to tighten the set screw completely.
- Turn the set screw ½ turn counter-clockwise.
- Test the tension on the spring.
How do you fix an extruder click?
Slipping or Clicking Extruder: Best Ways to Fix It
- One Click Too Many.
- Level the Bed.
- Lower the Print Speed.
- Increase the Temperature.
- Check the Bowden Tube.
- Check the Hot End & Nozzle.
- Upgrade the Extruder.
- Check the Stepper Motor for Defects.
Why does my extruder grind up my filament?
The reason your extruder is grinding up your filament can be due to reasons such as bad retraction settings, low temperature & underextrusion issues, damaged PTFE tubing, the feeder tension being too strong or a combination of a number of reasons. Depending on what the cause is, there will be a solution.
Why is my extruder slipping on the floor?
Depending on how early the grinding of the filament happens, it could be caused by your extruder gear being affected by dust, dirt or rust. It stops your extruder working as effectively as it should and causes slipping.
Why do I need a dual geared extruder?
As you can see, the filament is slightly backed up from the bump. The feeder being tension too strongly, or your filament being soft. Dual geared extruders are designed to tackle most of these problems, so even if your filament is bad quality, this extruder will power through as best as it can.
Why is the filament curling on my PTFE?
If you see any curling in melted filament, you can usually put this down to a blockage in the nozzle. When you’re pulling out the filament from the PTFE tube after it stops extruding, check the filament from the nozzle side.
