What causes a temperature gauge to stop working?
The most common cause of faulty temperature readings is a broken coolant temperature sensor (CTS). The part, which is normally located near a vehicle’s thermostat near the base of the radiator (consult your owner’s manual or repair guide) can get gunked up and fail. Disconnect the temperature sensor’s wiring connector.

Why does the temperature gauge on my AC stop working?

As you can disconnect the battery and it suddenly resets I suspect there is a code being stored in the HVAC module that is pointing at what is shutting the system down.

Drove it around for about 10 mins and the car stayed at 210 on the gauge (as it should) and the a/c worked fine. This lasted for 2 days and then it went back to dropping the water temp, killing the a/c. My thoughts are of course electrical. The temp gauge can’t fluctuate that drastically without it being some sort of circuit/relay/sensor issue.

Jesus S suggestion work. I had the same problem. A/c was blowing cold air for a few minutes then stopped blowing cold air but blow motor was blowing hot air. Next the temperature gage was not working. Disconnected battery for a few minutes and reconnected and the temperature gage is working and the a/c appears to be working.

My question is to Ken the Administrator. In a previous blog about 2008 Trailblazer with a temperature gauge intermittently not working and setting code 128, you stated that it traces back to the BCM. Could you kindly explain how the BCM controls this?
