Can a commercial aircraft be used for combat?
While commercial aircraft can obviously be used for transport missions (transporting troops or military cargo) unchanged, I believe the question is really about using commercial airliners for combat missions.
Are there any civilian aircraft with military systems?
It should be noted that some civilian aircraft do have military systems fitted (and not just radars like AWACS). The Israeli airline has a laser-based missile defense system fitted to its airliners. (They wanted to use flares but apparently you can’t drop flares at a commerical airport due to fire risk, so they got a laser-based system instead).
When to use MIL air for commercial travel?
Government and DoD policies direct senior travelers to adjust their itinerary, whenever possible, to allow for commercial travel. This includes leaving the day prior and/or departing the day after events. Operational Consideration – There may be compelling operational considerations that make the use of mil air justified even if not cost effective.
Can a commercial airline be used for an invasion?
When they used that idea for Red Dawn it wasn’t something new. They got their inspiration from the Soviets themselves who had done so when they first sent their Airborne units into Afghanistan in 1979. The Soviets used Aeroflot commercial planes and disguised military aircraft to land at Bagram Airbase.
