What does 32 bit normal map look like?
One interesting thing to note is that the 32 bit normal map looks a bit pale and lighter than we’re used to. It would be useful to be able to view it in the more typical darker shades like we had with the 8 bit image and I wouldn’t be surprised if that option returns soon too.
Can You bake a 16 bit cake in Photoshop?
First, bake at 2x the resolution, then open it in photoshop, set it to 16 bit (mode -> 16 bit), then resize it to half, and then convert back to 8 bit. This will dither to a degree, but is not as good as baking in 16 bit. Really there isn’t much reason not to bake in 16 bit.
How many bits can a 24 bit image hold?
A 24 bit image can store 8 bits, or 256 values of information per channel. From this point forward, if I say 8, 16 or 32 bit, assume I mean per channel. 256 values are usually enough for content like diffuse, specular or gloss maps because these maps tend to use up a broader range of the value spectrum.
Can a bump map be converted to a normal map?
So as shown a height map used for a bump node and that same height map converted to a normal map and then plugged in a normal map node will shade differently.
What makes objects turn dark in Blender Stack Exchange?
Top left are the gray objects with normals, the jacket with the ball behind it. The other three do have a Normals setting on it. And here comes the problem. As you can see, if you view it from behind (top right) it looks fine, the details of the Normals appear as they should, everything is dandy. Bottom left you can see some dark shadows appearing.

No normals in none of the images. The gray objects have an Anisotropic (same problem with glossy material) material on it.
