What does a dependent source in a circuit look like?
Sometimes, there are things like dependent sources, or sources that change their output depending on other parts of the circuit. Their symbols look like this: On occasion, such as with a current mirror, a power source in real life depends on the voltage or current in another portion of the circuit.
Can a current be dependent on a voltage?
For example, a current source could be dependent on a voltage while a voltage source could be dependent on a current. It’s just a mathematical representation. It will cause some things that look odd at first, like 0.5v 1 amps, but it’s perfectly natural.
When to look for a dependent power source?
When working with dependent power sources, you need to look for the dependent element, or the element that the power source is dependent upon. Make sure that you pay attention to whether it’s dependent on the voltage or the current. When solving the circuit, you can just place the provided relationship into the equation you laid out.
When does a power source depend on a current?
On occasion, such as with a current mirror, a power source in real life depends on the voltage or current in another portion of the circuit. This is modeled with dependent power sources. They complicate circuit analysis but they shouldn’t be too scary as they simply replace one bit of math with another.
How are two ports connected in a circuit?
Now port 1 is connected to port 2 (the voltage at port 2 affects port 1) and vice-versa. This is the two-port version of the Thevenin equivalent idea. We can use this to model circuits that have an input and output. If desired, we can do a source transformation at each end. + – + – v 1a v 2 21 v 2 R 1 R +2 – + –a 12 v 1 i 2 i 1 v 1v 2 21 v 2 R 1 R
How is the slope of a resistive circuit calculated?
Simple resistive circuit. The curve for a resistor is a straight line (the current is directly proportional to the voltage). The slope of the straight line is i/v 1 R(see Figure 6) For convenience we define the conductance (G) of a circuit element as the inverse of the resistance.
How are voltages represented in a circuit Circuit?
In reality, those voltages are produced by something and they are represented symbolically in circuits. By doing this, we also have more freedom with what those sources can represent – AC and/or DC voltage sources, current sources, dependent or independent sources.
