What does directional light mean?
Directional lights emit parallel light rays in a single direction but the light reaches out into infinity. You can think of a directional light as a giant flash light very far away from your objects, always centered and it never dies off. You can rotate the light in any direction.

How does the direction of light affects shadows?
The Sun’s position in the sky affects the length of the shadow. When the Sun is low on the horizon, the shadows are long. When the Sun is high in the sky, the shadows are much shorter. We can create the same effects indoors by changing the position of a torch as it shines on an object.
What is the effect of front light?
The shadows cast by frontal light are behind the subject, out of sight from the camera’s point of view. Shadows help to give a sense of shape and form to a subject. Without shadows a subject’s shape becomes more ambiguous. Shadows can also add drama to a photo.
How many can lights in a 20×20 room?
If you have a center light fixture, you should be able to use 4 inch line voltage cans or low voltage for supplemental lighting. I would go with at least 8 three inch cans for a 20 foot room.
Why do shadows change direction?
Since the sun’s position in the sky during the course of the day changes due to the rotation of Earth on its axis, the shapes of outdoor shadows also change during the course of the day. As students do this activity, they may say that the sun is moving across the sky. The sun is not really moving, but rather Earth is.
