What does execution time depend on?
The execution time of an instruction depends in part on the behavior of other instructions in the pipeline. Two instructions that compete for the same resource will execute more slowly when executed together than if they were executed at widely separated times. The memory system is an even larger source of variation.
Why is execution time different?
Your CPU keeps often-requested data in caches. As accessing memory in a cache is faster than using other memory, this can warp benchmarks. Your OS may cache files in memory rather than loading them from disk. Obviously this hasn’t happened the first time you run a program.
What does instruction time and execution time mean?
– It is the time taken by the Control Unit to get an instruction from memory and to load it to the register. – The time also includes the taken by the CU for instruction decoding and to find out the location of the required data.
Performance is determined by execution time as performance is inversely proportional to execution time. If given that Processor A is faster than processor B, that means execution time of A is less than that of execution time of B. Therefore, performance of A is greater than that of performance of B.
What is instruction execution characteristics?
Characteristic of CISC – Instructions are larger than one-word size. Instruction may take more than a single clock cycle to get executed. Less number of general-purpose registers as operation get performed in memory itself. Complex Addressing Modes. More Data types.
Which is the smallest amount of execution time?
CPU_Time_Unit is the smallest amount of execution time representable by the CPU_Time type; it is expressed in seconds. A CPU clock tick is an execution time interval during which the clock value (as observed by calling the Clock function) remains constant.
Which is the mechanism used to measure execution time?
The mechanism used to measure execution time is implementation defined. It is implementation defined which task, if any, is charged the execution time that is consumed by interrupt handlers and run-time services on behalf of the system. The type CPU_Time represents the execution time of a task.
How is the execution time defined in Ada?
end Ada.Execution_Time; The execution time or CPU time of a given task is defined as the time spent by the system executing that task, including the time spent executing run-time or system services on its behalf. The mechanism used to measure execution time is implementation defined.
