What does it mean for a transistor to be in its active region?
The region between cut off and saturation is known as active region. In the active region, collector-base junction remains reverse biased while base-emitter junction remains forward biased. Consequently, the transistor will function normally in this region.
What is the condition for operating a transistor in active region?
The transistor operates in active region when the emitter junction is forward biased and collector junction is reverse biased. In the active state, collector current is β times the base current, i.e., IC=βIB.
Why transistor acts as an amplifier in active region?
A transistor acts as an amplifier by raising the strength of a weak signal. The DC bias voltage applied to the emitter base junction, makes it remain in forward biased condition. Thus a small input voltage results in a large output voltage, which shows that the transistor works as an amplifier.
Why is VBE constant in a silicon transistor?
So, while it is not true that the base-emitter voltage is constant, it is not a bad approximation to consider it constant over a relatively wide range of collector current. Vbe in a silicon transistor, acts like a silicon diode would. The Forward Voltage Drop, after a certain amount of current is passed, rises sharply.
What should the base voltage of a transistor be?
It appears that base-emitter voltage (Vbe) in transistor is always assumed as 0.6 V in circuit analysis. I’ve seen one figure (see attached image). It seems over the wide range of base current (Ib), Vbe doesn’t change much. Thus we can interpret this as it is safe to assume Vbe of 0.6 V.
What is VBE of a BJT transistor?
The example above showing 0.7V for V BE is of a silicon transistor. What is V BB of a BJT Transistor? What is V CC of a BJT Transistor?
What is the VBE of a germanium transistor?
For a germanium transistor (which is more rare), V BE is approximately 0.3V. V BE is important when doing DC analysis of a transistor circuit because it is used for calculations to find the transistor’s DC values. One of the most important calculations it is used for is to find the quiescent current of the transistor, I EQ.
