What factors affect V1 speed?
The weight of the aircraft and its cargo is the most important component. Airport elevation, the existence of any slope on the runway, and the presence of precipitation or ice also play a role. Temperature and wind speed are also factors, as are configuration of the airplane.
Why does V1 increase with weight?
VR increases with increasing gross weight. This means that at low gross weight, theoretically, if the aircraft had not yet been rotated past a V1 limited by VR, sufficient distance may still exist to stop the aircraft on the remaining ASDA. At higher gross weights, the higher VR required might allow for a higher V1.

Let’s look at a few V-speeds which FAA regulations require for certain American aircraft. Since it concerns the runway, V 1 is the first velocity speed a pilot must take into account. It is the maximum speed during takeoff that will allow the aircraft to stop on what remains of the runway in case of an aborted takeoff.
Why does a larger airplane have a higher V 1?
The bigger the airplane, the higher V 1 will be, since the airspeed depends on weight. A larger aircraft will take longer to stop. Therefore, a Boeing 777 loaded to capacity will have a higher V 1 than a small Beechjet400 carrying only the pilots, minimal cargo, and enough fuel for a short flight.
