What gauge wire are battery cables?
Battery cables are sized according to the American Wire Gauge (AWG). The sizes from the smallest to the largest include 6, 4, 2, 1, 1/0, 2/0, 3/0, and 4/0. Your choice depends on the amperage and length you need. As far as standards go, a 6-gauge AWG cable has a 50-amp capacity and is 11.8 feet long.
How do I know what size battery cable to buy?
When choosing the length you must take into consideration the voltage drop, or the amount of voltage lost over the length of the automotive wire or cable. As the wire length gets longer, electrical resistance builds up until it forces the voltage down below a usable level.
What size wire do I need for a 2000 watt inverter?
1/0 AWG battery cables should be used on power inverters rated up to 3500 watts and most commonly used on 2000, 2200, 2500, 3000, 3300 and 3500 watt inverters. You can find our 1/0 AWG cables here on IRU and on Amazon.
What size fuse should I use for 4 gauge wire?
4 gauge wire is commonly used as a main power wire so it will be used as an example here. Fuse ‘A’ must be rated to protect wire ‘B’. Any fuse rated at less than ~150 amps is sufficient to protect a 4g wire and the vehicle but I generally recommend a 125 amp fuse with 4g wire.
How to choose the Right Battery interconnect cable?
To select the proper length of cable, put the battery bank in place and measure the distance between the battery terminals you need to connect. Choose a length that is slightly longer than the measured value. Avoid selecting an interconnect cable that is too long, since this may cause you to bend the cable significantly in order to get in in place.
How big is a battery interconnect cable for Alte?
All of our Battery interconnect cables are fitted with 3/8″ (10mm) terminal lugs. Make sure to check your battery posts to ensure they can accept this type of connection. To select the proper length of cable, put the battery bank in place and measure the distance between the battery terminals you need to connect.
