What happens when EMF zero?
If there is no back end then large current flows in starting of motors because initial speed is zero and back emf is zero thus winding gets damaged for this purpose only we use starters for all motors. motor will not start. when the motor runs, there has to be back emf.
At what time is the induced EMF zero?
The induced emf goes through zero when the flux curve has zero slope. We observe a 90o phase shift between flux and induced emf. If the coil of the generator is part of a closed circuit, and a current flows in the circuit, the coil becomes a magnetic dipole with dipole moment m = IAn in a magnetic field.
Is induced EMF always positive?
The voltage is not negative, always. The negative sign in Faraday’s law (Lenz’s law) does not mean that the EMF (or current) always points in some “negative” direction. It means that the current always flows in a way to oppose the change in flux, which is nicely illustrated in that video clip.
What affects induced EMF?
As seen in previous Atoms, any change in magnetic flux induces an electromotive force (EMF) opposing that change—a process known as induction. Motion is one of the major causes of induction. For example, a magnet moved toward a coil induces an EMF, and a coil moved toward a magnet produces a similar EMF.
How do you know if an induced emf is positive or negative?
If emf is induced in a coil, N is its number of turns. The minus sign means that the emf creates a current I and magnetic field B that oppose the change in flux ΔΦ—this opposition is known as Lenz’s law.
Can you have negative induced emf?
Induced EMF due to change in current is negative.
Is there a way to induce a zero EMF?
Yes, it would be zero. According to Faraday’s Law the induced EMF would be zero because by moving the loop in that way the magnetic flux would not change. For an EMF to be induced the magnetic flux must change.
What is the magnetic field of an induced EMF?
Consider a flat square coil with N = 5 loops. The coil is 20 cm on each side, and has a magnetic field of 0.3 T passing through it. The plane of the coil is perpendicular to the magnetic field: the field points out of the page. (a) If nothing is changed, what is the induced emf?
Lenz’s law: The induced emf generates a current that sets up a magnetic field which acts to oppose the change in magnetic flux. Another way of stating Lenz’s law is to say that coils and loops like to maintain the status quo (i.e., they don’t like change).
How is magnetic flux zero when the field is not zero?
Explain how magnetic flux can be zero when the magnetic field is not zero. 4. Is an emf induced in the coil in Figure 5 when it is stretched? If so, state why and give the direction of the induced current.
