What is a bullnose Z Frame?
The new Bullnose Z Frame is a decorative frame used for inside mounts. The wide face with rounded edges compliments modern style. It is excellent for slightly out of square windows because the extended profile edges cover any imperfections.
What is an L Frame for shutters?
An L-Frame is the simplest profile and will not draw attention away from your shutters. An L-Frame is a square frame that fits completely inside the recess of your window opening. You can mount it pushed back toward the glass, or flush with the edge of the wall.
What is a sill cut?
A sill cut is the removal of the overhang lip on one or more frame sides.
What is a protruding window sill?
At step 3 of the Design Centre, we will ask if you have a protruding window sill. A window sill projects into the room further than any other side of your window. A window may have a recess and a sill. If you’re unsure, look at your window from the side.
Do shutters take up window sill?
Often, we install shutters inside the window recess, as close as possible to the windows, so that the window sill can still be utilised. In this case the frame will fit outside the window recess and will square off any inconsistencies in the window alignment.
How thick are plantation shutter frames?
A window frame depth of 60mm is required for the Shutters to sit flush and operate effectively; if there are obstructions such as window winders or handles there needs to be 60mm depth from that obstruction. A minimum depth of 30mm is required, however this will result in the Shutters protruding from the recess.

How far should window sill stick out?

How far should a window sill stick out from a wall? The sill should overhang from the front edge of the wall or window frame at least 3/4 inch. You can make it hang over more if you’d like. Keep in mind the sill should fit the scale of the window and reflect the style too.
What is the difference between a window sill and a window ledge?
a window sill is on the inside and a window ledge is on the outside. In a residence or single family dwelling there’s usually no difference. In old construction there’s a very substantial board at the bottom, tilted outward to allow rainwater to drain.
When should you not use shutters?
You should not add shutters to the following:
- Double mulled windows.
- Windows that are winder than they are tall.
- Bay windows.
- One side of a window, leaving the opposite side unshuttered.
- Windows that are so close, an open shutter would obscure part of the adjoining window.
Do shutters damage windows?
The answer in almost every single case is yes, you can! It’s very rare that a set of plantation shutters will interfere with replacing a window, and in those cases they’re easy to detach from the window frame and reattach after the replacement is done.
What do you mean by a ” Z ” frame?
A “Z” frame refers to a modification done to what would otherwise be a straight framed vehicle. Here is an image of two frames (done via 3D printing) of what the difference would be: the idea is to take the straight frame (top) and make the zig-zag in it.
What makes a Z-frame shutter a good shutter?
The Z-Frame has a built-in light stop to minimize light gaps between the plantation shutter panels and the Z-Frame. This is a good choice for windows that are out of square since the Z-Frame is intentionally made for inside mount and made a little smaller than the window, thus allowing for adjustments.

What’s the difference between small and large Z frames?
Z-frames come in a variety of sizes and profiles. Small Z Frames are typically more contemporary and are great choices when there are obstructions close to the window opening like cabinets or light switches. Medium Z Frames and Large Z Frames are more traditional and tend to look like crown or base molding.
