What is a current sensing relay?
Current sensor relays detect voltage changes and switch power on or off. They protect heavy machinery from damage from overloads, undercurrents, and lamp loads.
What is the current switch?
A current switch is used to monitor this current level. A set of contacts will change state from either a closed condition to an open condition or vice versa. This change in contact state will either remove or apply a signal to the system controller signaling the abnormal operation of the monitored motor.
Where is the current relay located?
Current relays are position- sensitive; they must be mounted in an upright position. The current relay has a low-resistance coil of wire wrapped around the outside of the relay body (see Figure 1). This coil of wire is in series with the run winding of the motor.
What is Relay principle?
Relay works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. When the electromagnet is applied with some current it induces a magnetic field around it. A switch is used to apply DC current to the load. In the relay Copper coil and the iron core acts as electromagnet.
What are the different types of current sensing relays?
CAP Series: Detects AC or DC overcurrent condition, 11 pin octal socket COKP Series: Detects AC overcurrent condition, 8 pin octal socket These products have an encapsulated construction for protection against harsh environments. They are easy to mount with two screws and use 0.25″ quick-connect terminations for easy wiring.
How does a Grainger current sensor relay work?
Current sensor relays from Grainger protect heavy machinery from sudden current changes. Current sensors detect voltage changes and respond accordingly. The current sensing relay switches power on or off when overloads, undercurrents and lamp loads occur.

When do you need a current monitor relay?
Macromatic offers a wide variety of AC & DC current sensing relays (sometimes referred to as current monitor relays). They be used in several applications where protection of sensitive or expensive equipment against over or under current conditions is required, such as detecting (sensing) conveyor jam-up conditions,…
