What is a parent content type?
Under Parent Content Type, select a parent, such as Digital Asset Content Types or Document Content Types. Under the parent content type, the dropdown box will change. Select a more specific parent content type. For example, if you selected Digital Asset Content Types, you can narrow it to Video or Audio in this box.
When do we use content types?
List content types can make your document libraries and lists more flexible, because a single list or library can contain multiple item types or document types, each of which can have unique metadata, policies, or behaviors.
Which is a child of the content type?
The list content type is a child of the site content type from which it was created. It inherits all the attributes of its parent site content type, such as its document template, read-only setting, workflows, and columns.
How are site content types different from list content types?
The value of the Id property for the list content type is different from the value of the Id property for its parent site content type, but otherwise the two content types are initially the same. The fact that list content types are often derived from site content types has implications for change management.
What happens if I change the content type on a child site?
If you do not have the appropriate access rights to a child site, push-down operations to content types that are contained in that child site fail. For more information about read-only and sealed content types, see Content Type Change Control.
How to add a content type to a list?
To add a content type to a list or library 1 Go to the settings for the list or library. 2 Under Content Types, select Add from existing site content types. 3 To choose the group of site content types you want to select from the Select Site content types from list, select the arrow.
