What is a system of equations in simple terms?
A “system” of equations is a set or collection of equations that you deal with all together at once. Linear equations (ones that graph as straight lines) are simpler than non-linear equations, and the simplest linear system is one with two equations and two variables.

Systems of equations are used to solve applications when there is more than one unknown and there is enough information to set up equations in those unknowns. In general, if there are n unknowns, we need enough information to set up n equations in those unknowns.
