What is an attention head transformer?
Multiple Attention Heads In the Transformer, the Attention module repeats its computations multiple times in parallel. Each of these is called an Attention Head. All of these similar Attention calculations are then combined together to produce a final Attention score.
What is multi-head attention in transformer?
Multi-head Attention is a module for attention mechanisms which runs through an attention mechanism several times in parallel. Intuitively, multiple attention heads allows for attending to parts of the sequence differently (e.g. longer-term dependencies versus shorter-term dependencies).
How do you describe self-attention?
In layman’s terms, the self-attention mechanism allows the inputs to interact with each other (“self”) and find out who they should pay more attention to (“attention”). The outputs are aggregates of these interactions and attention scores.
What does multi-head attention mean in Transformers?
All of these similar Attention calculations are then combined together to produce a final Attention score. This is called Multi-head attention and gives the Transformer greater power to encode multiple relationships and nuances for each word.
How to calculate the attention of a transformer?
Our transformer model uses a scaled dot-product function to calculate the attention. The attention function used by the transformer takes three inputs: Q (query), K (key), V (value), with the following equation used to calculate the weights.
How is intra-attention related to self-attention?
“Self-attention, sometimes called intra-attention, is an attention mechanism relating different positions of a single sequence in order to compute a representation of the sequence.” ~ Ashish Vaswani et al. [2] from Google Brain.
How are attention heads used in a matrix?
A single data matrix is used for the Query, Key, and Value, respectively, with logically separate sections of the matrix for each Attention head. Similarly, there are not separate Linear layers, one for each Attention head. All the Attention heads share the same Linear layer but simply operate on their ‘own’ logical section of the data matrix.
