Business Data Connectivity (BDC) service is the new version of the Business Data Catalog that was provided in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. It is now provided in Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010.
What are BCS connections?
In SharePoint in Microsoft 365, you can create Business Connectivity Services (BCS) connections to data sources, such as SQL Azure databases or Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) web services, that are outside the SharePoint site. Metadata Store Permissions
- In the left pane of the new SharePoint admin center, select More features.
- Under BCS, select Open.
- Select Manage BDC Models and External Content Types.
- On the ribbon, select Set Metadata Store Permissions.
- Enter a user account or group into the text box, and then select Add.
How to change the business data connectivity service?
If the server name shown there is not the server that you want to run the Business Data Connectivity Service, click on the down arrow, click Change Server and select the correct server. If necessary, next to Business Data Connectivity Service, under the Action column, click Start.
How to create a business connectivity service application?
Microsoft Business Connectivity Services is a SharePoint Server service application. You must create it if it was not created during your farms initial configuration. The application pool for the Business Connectivity Services service application requires a SharePoint Server managed account (generally an Active Directory account) to run.
Select the account that you configured in the Prerequisites for deploying a Business Connectivity Services on-premises solution in the SharePoint 2013 procedure as the SharePoint products application services account in the Configurable drop down. Click “OK” to create the new Business Data Connectivity Service Application and click “OK” again.
How to add business data connectivity service to SQL Server?
If you have SQL Server database mirroring configured and you want to include the Business Data Connectivity Service database in mirroring, provide the name of the failover database server in the Failover Database Server box. Type a name for a new application pool in the Application pool name box.
