What is better thermal paste or thermal tape?
The fact that thermal paste is more durable than thermal pads means that if the heat sink ever needs to be replaced, the heatsink will be very difficult to remove. Thermal pads will always be less of a mess, but will also slightly underperform in the thermal conductivity heatsink ring.
Can you use thermal tape instead of paste?
If you do not plan to overclock, the tape should be sufficient, although it will probably melt and hence cannot be used with another CPU in the future. You will have to remove it anyway after the first use. If you plan to overclock, definitely go with the paste.
