What is chip select in memory?
Chip select (CS) or slave select (SS) is the name of a control line in digital electronics used to select one (or a set) of integrated circuits (commonly called “chips”) out of several connected to the same computer bus, usually utilizing the three-state logic.
Why is chip select active low?
The Chip Enables , Chip Select signals are active low. Suppose u make them active high and randomly a glitch occurs for a very short time, then that chip would be selected due to that glitch and it may cause unpredicted values on data bus etc. Making Chip Enable signals high prevents it from this sort of problem.
What is the role of the CS signal?
CS (Chip Select) is a memory select signal and is the same as CE of the EPROM. The memory is selected when it is set at low level. This is used to assign a specific address by adding an address-decoded signal.
What maximum size of external memory can be interfaced to Intel 8085 microprocessor?
8085 has 16 address lines (A0 – A15), hence a maximum of 64 KB (= 216 bytes) of memory locations can be interfaced with it. The memory address space of the 8085 takes values from 0000H to FFFFH.
How does chip select work?
The chip select signal from the master is used to select the slave. This is normally an active low signal and is pulled high to disconnect the slave from the SPI bus. When multiple slaves are used, an individual chip select signal for each slave is required from the master.
What are the application of ROM?
Applications of Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EPROM)
- As program storage chip in Micro controllers.
- For debugging.
- For program development.
- As BIOS chip in computers.
- As program storage chip in modem, video card and many electronic gadgets.
Is chip select active low?
Usually chip select is an active low signal; hence, the master must send a logic 0 on this signal to select the slave.
Is signal a army?
The United States Army Signal Corps (USASC) is a branch of the United States Army that creates and manages communications and information systems for the command and control of combined arms forces.
What is the maximum size of Rom in 8085?
8085 has 16 address lines (A0 – A15), hence a maximum of 64 KB (= 216 bytes) of memory locations can be interfaced with it. The memory address space of the 8085 takes values from 0000H to FFFFH.
How many pins are there in 8085?
40-pin
The 8085 is supplied in a 40-pin DIP package. To maximise the functions on the available pins, the 8085 uses a multiplexed address/data(AD^0-AD^7) bus.
How does SPI chip select work?
