What is CMSIS and HAL?
CMSIS is the Cortex Microcontroller Software Interface Standard, and the Hardware Access Layer (HAL) is a defined part of this standard. The HAL provides an access layer for the SiM3xxxx device registers.
What is CMSIS STM32?
The Common Microcontroller Software Interface Standard (CMSIS) is a vendor-independent abstraction layer for microcontrollers that are based on Arm Cortex processors. CMSIS provides interfaces to processor and peripherals, real-time operating systems, and middleware components.
What is STM32 cube?
STM32 Cube-MX is the successor of the MicroXplorer tool. This platform includes the STM32Cube HAL an STM32 abstraction layer embedded software, ensuring maximized portability across STM32 portfolio, plus a consistent set of middleware components (RTOS, USB, FS, TCP/IP, Graphics, etc).
How do I use Cmsis library?
Using the library
- Step 0: Open or create a project.
- Step 1: Download the CMSIS pack files.
- Step 2: Include arm_math.
- Step 3: Linking the library.
- Step 4: Use the same floating-point ABI as the linked library.
What’s the difference between CMSIS and stm32cube?
CMSIS are low level vendor independent methods to access the hardware of ARM Cortex devices. Some vendors, for example STM, provide libs on top of or next to CMSIS such as the STM32CUBE libs. The mbed libs provide a higher level vendor independent interface (C++ API) to the hardware from different vendors.
Why does mbed use HAL instead of stm32cube?
Then, a vendor-supplied HAL layer (e.g. STM32Cube) may be supplied to make accessing the rest of the microcontroller’s peripherals easier. The mbed HAL layer provides a generic C API for controlling the microcontroller’s peripherals, and may or may not use the optional vendor-supplied HAL layer to do it.

How to use stm32cubemx with ARM Keil?
This manual explains how to create projects that utilize STM32CubeMX together with Arm Keil MDK, which provides Device Family Packs (DFP) for the STM32 device series. The STM32 DFPs (version 2 or higher) include STM32Cube and a full set of CMSIS-Drivers that provide standardized peripheral interfaces.
