What is high side current sensing?
This single–supply, high–side, low–cost current sensing solution detects load current between 50mA and 1A and converters it to an output voltage from 0.25V to 5V. High–side sensing allows for the system to identify ground shorts and does not create a ground disturbance on the load.
How do you sense your current?
The most common way to measure current is to sense the voltage drop across a shunt or current-sense resistor. To achieve a highly accurate measurement of the current, you’ll need to examine the parametric values of both the resistor and current-sense amplifier.
What is low side Vs high side?
High-Side vs. A low-side driver is placed between the load and ground, whereas a high-side driver, shown in 2(b), is placed between the load and the supply voltage. The low-side driver is often used for powertrain-related loads such as motors, solenoids, and heaters.

Current sensing refers to the generation of the voltage signal which is related to the current passing in the circuit. A conventional way of sensing current is to insert a resistor in the path of current to be sensitive. Then we can place the sensed resistor anywhere in series with the circuit it maybe load or switch.

The sensor then outputs a certain voltage or current that a meter connected to the sensor can read and translate into the amount of current flowing through the conductor.
