What is HoBT lock?
When SQL Server performs data sorting for I/O operations, it sorts the data first by partition. HoBT-level locks usually increase concurrency, but introduce the potential for deadlocks when transactions that are locking different partitions each want to expand their exclusive locks to the other partitions.
What is a HoBT?
first, hobt (pronounced “hobbit”) stands for “Heap or B-Tree”. A Heap is a collection of data pages that have no specific order and are not linked in any manner (like clusters which are a doubly-linked list).
What is a field level lock?
Field Level: The field-level lock allows concurrent transactions to access the same row as long as they require the use of different fields (attributes) within that row.
What is a page level lock?
Page locking (or page-level locking) concurrency control is shown in the figure below. In this situation, all the data on a specific page are locked. A page is a common unit of storage in computer systems and is used by all types of DBMSs. In this figure, each rectangle represents a page.
Is HOBt explosive?
Hydroxybenzotriazole (abbreviated HOBt) is an organic compound that is a derivative of benzotriazole. Anhydrous HOBt is explosive. It is mainly used to suppress the racemization of single-enantiomer chiral molecules and to improve the efficiency of peptide synthesis.
How does HOBt prevent racemization?
Adding HOBt, 6-Cl-HOBt or HOAt suppresses the racemization. Protecting the pi imidazole nitrogen in the histidine side-chain with the methoxybenzyl group greatly reduces racemization.
On which level we can apply the lock?
Level of lock to be applied: Locking can be done on basis of three levels: Row Level: It is used when a condition is applied in a query on a single row(or record) using WHERE clause. Page Level: It is used when the condition is applied in a query on a certain set of data(certain records) using WHERE clause.
What does the Lock escalation event class mean?
The Lock:Escalation event class indicates that a finer-grained lock has been converted to a coarser-grained lock; for example, a row lock that is converted to an object lock. The escalation event class is Event ID 60.
How to tell between HOBt and object in SQL Server?
I’m capturing the lock_escalation event on our production servers (running the Enterprise Edition of SQL Server 2014) and trying to make sense of the output, particularly the resource_type field. Although there are 17 different possible values for the resource_type field, all I see is OBJECT and HOBT.
What does escalation event mean in SQL Server?
The Lock:Escalation event class indicates that a finer-grained lock has been converted to a coarser-grained lock; for example, a row lock that is converted to an object lock. The escalation event class is Event ID 60. Name of the client application that created the connection to an instance of SQL Server.
What does HOBt mean in sys.dm _ Tran _ locks?
According to the documentation for sys.dm_tran_locks (under “Resource Details”), it shows that: Represents a heap or a B-tree. These are the basic access path structures. and the “resource_associated_entity_id” field (that should be there or should be added) value relates to: HoBt ID. This value corresponds to sys.partitions.hobt_id.
