What is host route?
Hosts attached directly connected to routers are host routes. They are advertised with a mask all 1’s indicating a single destination. A loopback interface is advertised in the routers LSA as a single host route and is considered to be a stub network.
What is a network route table?
In computer networking, a routing table, or routing information base (RIB), is a data table stored in a router or a network host that lists the routes to particular network destinations, and in some cases, metrics (distances) associated with those routes.
What is a host route used for?
A host route is used to route traffic to a specific host. The subnet mask in the route will always be all 1’s. That means the subnet mask for a host route will be /32 for IPv4 and /128 for IPv6.
Does a host have a routing table?
To access a resource on a network, your host will determine the route to the destination host using its routing table. The host routing table is similar to that of a router, but is specific to the local host and much less complex. For a packet to reach a local destination, the local host routing table is required.
What do network routes and host routes look like?
Host Route : A route to a specific internetwork address (Network ID and Host ID). Host routes allow intelligent routing decisions to be made for each network address. Host routes are used to create custom routes to control or optimize specific types of network traffic. G (use gateway)?
How to read and understand the routing table?
1 The routing table contains routes, which instruct the routers on where to send the traffic 2 Each route has a target network, a subnet mask and either a next-hop or an exit interface 3 In the routing table, two identical routes cannot exist, but two (or more) overlapping routes can
How is the network address entered into the routing table?
The network address and subnet mask of the interface, along with the interface type and number, are entered into the routing table as a directly connected network. When a router forwards a packet to a host, such as a web server, that host is on the same network as a router’s directly connected network.
What can be stored in a routing table?
Routing table entries can be used to store the following types of routes: 1 Directly Attached Network IDs 2 Remote Network IDs 3 Host Routes 4 Default Route 5 Destination
